DAVID KUCERA
Sculpture
My sculptures originate in the materiality of concrete and its reinforcement. Understanding this relationship allows me to deconstruct rigid geometry into lyrical motion and expression. Using demolition as a sculptural process releases the composition from its original concrete geometry, enabling an explosive connection to the materiality and form.
Painting
My painting practice is informed and inspired by architectures of the natural world. I use compositional string masks to project abstract subjects into dense grounds of color. The entangled layers of string have an amazing ability to suggest form while creating compelling visual tension across a variety of compositions and media.
